IMG_7100‘Umm Hisham’ Durreshehwar Mirza is a teacher, public speaker, counsellor, Hijama therapist, wife and mother.

Umm Hisham, daughter of Iqbal Baig Mirza, great grand daughter of Shams-ul-Ulema Mirza Kaleech Baig, hails from Karachi Pakistan. At a very young age she migrated to Dubai with her family, and she has lived in Dubai since.

She has conducted vast self-study through the scholars of Saudi Arabia. Having studied from the likes of Sheikh Saleh Al Munnajjid, Sheikh Uthaymeen, Sheikh Jibreen, Sheikh Ibn Baaz, and the direct instruction of Dr. Bilal Phillips for over 10 years, Durreshehwar bint Iqbal Mirza is a self-read student of Islam.

Umm Hisham initially started extending her knowledge on this beautiful way of life towards her close family and friends, and soon small-scale classes turned into regular classes, that she chooses to do fee-sabeel-illah (In the way of Allah alone).

With now over 20 years of teaching experience, Umm Hisham has made television and radio appearances, including GEO TV, Radio Noor DubaiRadio Dubai 92, dealing with topics that range from the day to day application of Islam, to deeper issues. She was also one of the organisers of the Dubai International Peace Convention 2010, 2012 and the Ramadan Forum 2011. In 2010, she presented an article to honor her great grandfather in the ‘International Conference on the Contribution of Shamsul Ulama Mirza Kalich Beg to the language, literature and society’ held by the Universty of Sindh.

She is a recognised member of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department of Dubai and delivers talks for them, as well as gives regular weekly talks on topics, and on Quran Tafseer in Urdu and English for sisters both privately and at venues around Dubai.

IMG_7029Umm Hisham has taught at and headed the Al Manar Weekend Tarbiyah School along with her husband, at the Al Manar Quran Study Centre for 5 years. She also conducts regular talks for teenagers to help them deal with their unique challenges through the knowledge of Quran and Sunnah.

Besides these, she has had the honor of being a Chief Guest and Guest Speaker for many schools, colleges, community gatherings in Dubai and outside. She has been invited to give talks in the US, UK, India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Singapore.

IMG_4853 (1)In 2014, Umm Hisham completed her training in the UK and received her Diploma in Hijama Therapy at the Institute of Clinically Applied Hijama Therapy (ICAHT).

Most recently, Umm Hisham has been involved in the community project ‘MyBetterHalf.com’. Bringing with her over 18 years of experience counselling couples as well as families and individuals, Durreshehwar joins a team of international speakers and counsellors on this project that include Sheikh Sajid Umar, Sheikh Zafar ul Hasan Madani, Dr. Mohammad Al Kobaisi, Muhammad Tim Humble, Dr Farhat Hashmi and more. She has represented MyBetterHalf.com at the Marriage Conference 2015 in Malaysia that hosted speakers like Sheikh Abu Eesa Niamatullah, Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim, Sheikh Omar Suleiman, Sheikh Abdul Nasir Jangda, Sister Yasmin Mogahed and more.

At home Umm Hisham is a wife and mother of three who likes coffee, enjoys poetry, travel, the outdoors and talking to young people. Her efforts begin with herself, to be a good human being and to help others in the same way.
